• Try to separate coaching and evaluation. Try not to do both in the same meeting. Once the evaluation starts, the recipient may tune out or become closed off, and may not hear the coaching. • o Evaluation: Where do I stand in comparison to some standard to others? What are some perceived strengths and weaknesses about me? How secure is my job? o Coaching: What do you see are my areas for improvement? How can I improve my performance? • Tailor the style in which you are giving feedback to the "swing" of the recipient. • Some days are just bad days. Learn to recognize these days. Maintain the “growth” mindset. Trust the process, it will get better.
