Code Blue - Black Widow Envenomation
Shock trauma Auditorium
• Be suspicious for envenomation in patients with history of recent outdoor activity, particularly with extremity pain. • ½ of patients will have a localized rash. • Check a CK as these bites can cause rhabdomyolysis. • Treatment: pain control and symptom control. You can use anti-venom if symptoms are severe, but it is associated with a high-risk of allergic reaction and anaphylaxis.
