Gastroenterology - “Creatures, Crohn’s, and Colitis”
STA
• The first presentation of Crohn’s disease often masquerades as appendicitis- lateralizing tenderness in the right lower quadrant. • Rectovesicular fistula may present with pneumaturia; rectovaginal fistula presents with stool from vagina • Anal fissures – Simple fissures related to constipation should be at 6 or 12 o’clock position. If anal fissure is not in the posterior midline or anterior midline, recommend close follow up as this could be a sign of IBD. • Looking for a decision tool to predict the presence of complications (perforation, abscess, another serious finding) on CT among patients with Crohn's presenting to the Emergency Department? www.CrohnsCTrisk.info
