Workshop Description: The advanced echocardiography workshop is a ½ day hands-on course designed to educate, strengthen, and expand your bedside skills in adult cardiovascular resuscitation. The 4:1 participant to faculty ratio limits this course size and allows for optimal instruction; every participant will have one-on-one time to scan multiple live models and confer with expert faculty. The physics of ultrasound, transducer characteristics, and biological effects will not be reviewed during this course. Time will be focused on the clinical application of echo in the management of shock and gaining critical operator-dependent skills in the following:

  1. Standard 2-D transthoracic echo (TTE)
  2. Assessment of biventricular size and function
  3. Principles of  M-mode and Doppler
  4. Approach to pericardial and valvular disease
  5. Focused (4-view) transesophageal echo (TEE)
  6. Clinical applications of echo in man
