The February 2013 EMCast is now posted at https://www.emedhome.com/cme_emcast_list.cfm for subscribers.

And for non-subscribers that want old EMCasts (6mos old + ), you can now access them for free on iTunes!

Here's what we've got this month:

1. Discussion of ECMO in the ED with 2 of our CC-EM experts, Drs. John Greenwood and Haney Mallemat. They review some recent literature on the topic and give the low-down on whether this is something you need to know.
In the future, will we be calling the CT surgeons instead of the cardiologists for patients with cardiogenic shock?!

2. A review of the most important lab test in emergency medicine-- t roponin , by Dr. Semhar Tewelde. She reviews an article from Journal of the American College of Cardiology , an article that you've gotta know, and gives you some pearls on how to distinguish true MI vs. the many other causes of TN elevation.

3. You probably learned about the 7 classic Framingham risk factors for atherosclerosis, but they were created before HIV! Yes, HIV is now considered to be an independent risk factor for CAD . The dynamic duo of Drs. Mak Moayedi and Mercedes Torres review some recent literature on this topic and tell you about t he effect of HAART therapies on this risk.

4. I have a fever....and the only prescription is more Haney! He's back with a review of a recent NEJM article on accidental hypothermia. Tis the season for J-waves. Find out how to treat these patients. When is a patient cold and dead ? i.e. when do you NOT have to warm the patient? Here's the answer.

All this and much more on the February EMCast!

EMCast....listen...learn...save a life!
