Academic Activities and Responsibilities

Hi! I came out here more than 2 years ago from the great state of Ohio for the University of Maryland's combined EM/PEDS program. I was drawn to the depth of opportunity this program would provide me and am continually blown away by the amazing variety. One day I could be doing well child checks on cute chubby babies in peds clinic and the next day toss a chest tube in a Shock Trauma patient. The variety and acuity of Baltimore's patient population will rock your socks off! Just enough MVCs, shootings, and stabbings to keep things interesting, while offering a wide variety of basic and subspecialty patients requiring acute care.

I am perpetually amazed at the faculty's obvious desire to teach and commitment to resident education. Our curriculum is innovative, using only the most current literature and guidelines. We have monthly simulations and cadaver labs that offer the chance to become comfortable and proficient with procedures without the stress of a crashing patient.
Most importantly, I came for the people. Each attending cares about you as a person, not just as cheap labor and a revenue stream. My co-residents are some of the most amazing physicians and friends I could ever ask for! Always a plus when living in a spectactularly fun town!

Baltimore has all the big city ammenities while still maintaining a small town feel. We love our sports, food, adult beverages, and any excuse for a festival. Best of luck to everyone participating in the application/interview process. We would love to meet you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
