Academic Positions

The University of Maryland Department of Emergency Medicine

Our department staffs and manages five hospitals in downtown Baltimore. All of our physicians in this practice have faculty appointments with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and are given the opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of educational endeavors. From teaching medical students and residents to giving lectures on a local, national, and international stage, our faculty are on the cutting edge of emergency medicine education.

Our department has a wonderful reputation for helping our faculty grow and develop their professional interests in the field of emergency medicine. Our current faculty's interests are wide-ranging: emergency care, cardiopulmonary and brain resuscitation, clinical toxicology, prehospital care, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness and response, international medicine, use of ultrasound in the emergency department, and the incorporation of simulation into medical education. Junior faculty will appreciate our established faculty development program, run by our Vice Chair of Education, Dr. Amal Mattu.

In addition, our department also offers a wide variety of Fellowships. Whatever your interest, you will find a supporting environment among your fellow faculty, department leadership, and staff at the University of Maryland Department of Emergency Medicine.
