Thanks for considering the University of Maryland!
I grew up in Hershey, PA, left for 4 years at Duke, and returned to Hershey for med school at Penn State. I was torn between emergency and internal medicine when I first heard about the EMIM program, and it's a great way to get the best of both worlds.
My goal was to find a residency program that would prepare me to handle anything, and the University of Maryland in Baltimore deals with a high volume of complex patients. UMD also has amazing faculty with a strong focus on resident education. Both the medicine and emergency departments are very supportive of combined residents, and go out of their way to make us feel at home in either setting.
Also: When I matched at Maryland I had never watched (barely heard of) The Wire...and it turned out fine!
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about either program, or living in Baltimore in general.
