I was raised in Prince George?s County, Maryland. I am the youngest of 20 cousins, all of whom live in the area. We are very close, and we see each other often. When I was choosing my path in life, I wanted to be near my family. I went to undergraduate and medical school at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. I was in the University?s 7-Year combined BA/MD program and graduated in May 2005. Shortly thereafter, I began the Categorical Emergency Medicine residency at my first choice, The University of Maryland. It has been an eye-opening and wonderful experience so far, and you?re damned right I?ve learned a ton.
The atmosphere is filled with energy and enthusiasm for the most part. The attendings are great. They love to teach and are some of the smartest people I have ever met?not just in medicine, but also in many aspects of life. Maryland?s emergency room is exactly the type of place in which I wanted to train?an urban environment filled with people who don?t expect much and usually are very thankful just to have a warm blanket covering them, and a meal before they leave. Their emotions are raw, and they usually have no reservations about being brutally honest at times.
Since coming here, I have learned to love ultrasound, and I may even pursue fellowship training. As well, having been an athlete all my life, I am interested in sports medicine and orthopedics. I am planning to work with one of our sports medicine fellows this Fall in hopes of getting exposure to real-time sports medicine at Orioles Park and Ravens Stadium.
