Research Interests

Seeing a multitude of new patients every shift with health issues that span the range of medical and surgical specialties, makes every day in emergency medicine interesting, challenging, and completely unpredictable. One of the best parts of my job is that I learn something new every day. I enjoy getting the first crack at puzzling patient presentations and trying to determine the diagnosis and best initial treatment plan. In addition, I value my role as a health care provider for any patient who presents to the department, without concern for their insurance coverage or ability to pay. After completing my residency, I joined the UMEM practice as an attending physician at Mercy Medical Center, one of our academic community sites in downtown Baltimore. About a year later, I became the assistant director of the emergency department at Mercy and have continued in that role since then. I enjoy teaching medical students and have been an ICM instructor for the past 13 years. I am actively involved in resident education as the leader of the infectious disease lecture series. I am also a co-leader of the faculty administrative curriculum. I have had the opportunity to serve on multiple hospital and school of medicine committees and, more recently, have completed my training as a physician builder for EPIC. I enjoy solving logistical problems, improving ED operations, mentoring new attending physician, and developing initiatives aimed at more efficient, effective emergency department care. I find working with the population of Baltimore enjoyable and worthwhile.Outside of my career, I spend most of my time doing outdoors activities and spending time with my family. I enjoy running, skiing, hiking, biking, and backpacking.
