Dr. Semelrath spent 14 years in the Air Force, with 8 years of Active Duty service. He was stationed in San Antonio for 4 years, serving as a staff physician at the DoD's only Level 1 Trauma Center (SAMMC). He also served one year as the Interim Assistant Program Director for the Army/Air Force EM residency. While stationed in TX, he deployed twice as a Critical Care Air Transport Team physician. He then moved to Washington DC, where he served as Associate Chair for Emergency Medicine and EM Clerkship Director at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He was the Course Director for Operation Bushmaster, a large scale, simulated deployment exercise for 4th year medical students and senior Graduate School of Nursing students. After separating from the Air Force he joined the faculty here at UMEM, and continues to serve his fellow servicemembers as a full time faculty member at the Baltimore VA ER.
